Aberdare National Park
Country(s): Kenya

The Aberdare National Park has a latitude of 1,829 to 4,001 meters above sea level and is located in the central high-lands west of Mount Kenya. It was gazetted in May 1950 as a Natioanl Park and a forest reserve.

The park enjoys a cool and misty outlook with heavy rains through out the year. It is estimated that more than 2000 elephants roam the park, the elusive rare bongo, antelope and the forest hog. The black rhino is also present in the park. One can also see large herds Cape buffalo, blue duiker, bushbuck, troops of monkeys that is the colobus, Sykes and the black faced vervets. Sombre baboons also patrol the forsts and grasslands, fearfully avoiding the leopard and other carnivores such as the wild cat, spotted hyena, African civet and the golden cat.

The forests are globally known for their botanical richness.
