Lake Naivasha Country Club
From the top of the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley you can see Lake Naivasha sparkling in the sun thousnads of feet below. just an hour's drive from Nairobi, Naivash is on th the gems in a necklace of Rift Valley Lakes. Lake Naivasha country club became famous in th 1930's as a staging post for Imperial Airways' flying boat service from Durban to London. The Old Colonial architecture is solid and comfortable with accommodation in rooms and cottages set in 12 hectares of green lawns shaded by mature acacias and spreading fever trees, The public rooms are elegant and cool. The residents lounge has a massive fireplace and large bay windows. The bar is cosy and adjoins an immaculately equipped snooker room. Lake Naivasha is the focus of activity. There is good fishing for black bass and tilapia and a boattrip during the day is recommended for a close up of Naivasha's remarkable variety of birdlife and it's hippo colonies. You can see the lake in a different light in a romantic sudowner boat trip which combines a sumptuous sunset with exotic drinks.
A visit to Crescent island should not be missed. It is one of the few places in all Africa where you can wonder on foot among herds of zebras, wildebeest, gazelle and giraffe. There are no fences and no predators. it is completely wild and undeveloped and preserved like a private game park. The imaginative visitors will fell like a turn of the century explore and the views of the Mau escarpment and Mount Longonot are special, even by Kenyan standards
