Safari jokes gone to far:
On April First in the East Africa Standard there was an exciting article on the seventh wonder. It said and I quote "The annual wildebeest migration from the Serengeti in Tanzania to Maasai mara is set to change. Ecologists and meteorologists have revealed that, instead of the cycle closing at the famous Maasai mara Game Reserve, it will extend to Lake Turkana this year. Experts who have been studying the trend for the last five years say it is definite the migration, which recently was named the seventh wonder of the world, will for the first time in history cross to the great Rift valley towards the Southern Turkana area. According to Prof. Michael Steiner of the Institute of Migration Studies in Germany and Dr. Alex Kipng'om of the Kenya Wildlife Research Institute, who were the lead researchers in the study, the route has already been marked based on geological fossils." It further asserted that "Africa is changing very fast and human encroachment into the wildlife routes has continued to erase the traditional routes. Th wildebeest usually begin their migration in late June to July pouring in to the Maasai Mara Game reserve where fresh, tender and mineral rich grass is plentiful. The early movement they say is because the plains of Ngorognoro Conservation Area in Serengeti has exhausted its grass due to the alarming rising population of the animals. The population used to be about 2 million but has now hit 4 million . In the past the animals headed to Serengeti in in October. Following their natural instinct, the wildebeests, zebras and gazelles migrate in millions over a large expanse of land covering 10,000 square miles every year in search of fresh grass and water. They travel clock wise, covering the Maasai mara in Kenya and the Serengeti in Tanzania. The spectacle of this Migration can only be appreciated when individually witnessed. I could help thinking this was an April fools prank any one who can actually confirm this one
