African Food

Africa generally has a wide selection of natural foods such as

Fruits:They are mainly tropical fruits and include juicy pinepples, bananas, avocados, oranges, water melons, sweet melons, berries, mangoes. Most hotels will have a wide selection of these at all meals.

Meat: Beef, Mutton,fish (wide variety and very tasty)and Chicken. The most famous way of cooking it is roasting usually done on a charcoal grill in the open and commonly referred to as "nyama choma" in swahili. No tourist to Kenya should miss this very tasty dish.

Cereals: including rice, a whole range of breakfast cereal. Most hotel would serve cornflakes and Wheeta bix. Other foods made from these flours are bread, buns, cakes, "Chapati" from wheat, pizzas, pastries and "Ugali" from maize meal.

Vegetables: Again these are in plenty both african traditional vegetables and what is commonly referred to as English Vegetables e.g lettuce, cabbage, radish, potatoes, green garden peas, carrots, tomatoes

Any traveler should be able to find the foods tasty and very natural, most foods are either slightly processed or hardly processed at all.

Some of the traditional foods include

Ugali- a stiff maize-meal dish served with meat and kales or any other traditional vegetable

Mukimo- a combination of potatoes, maize/corn, green bananas and peas all mashed up served with stewed beef or chicken and traditional vegetables.

Chapati- a swahili dish of similar to pancake served with any stew of ones choice and a vegetable.
