Information on Kenya's Schools, Colleges, Univeristies and System of Education

Kenya has a variety of public funded schools and private schools the main system of education is known as 8-4-4 which is interpreted as eight years of primary schooling, 4 years of high school and four years in under-graduate school/ university. In the public schools at the end of primary school pupils sit for an exam known as KCPE Kenya Certificate of Primary Education and at the end of high school KCSE Kenya Certificate of Seconday Education exam is administered. Primary Education is free however school uniform has to be purchased

The private schools follow this system of education or the GCSE/IGCSE syllabus that is from the United Kingdom. While others offer a combination of Both. Private schools charge different rates depending on the facilities available it will usually range from Ksh 100,000 per year to 1,000,000 or USD 1700 to USD 15,000 per year.

The Academic year starts in January and ends in November but some schools that run international syllabus start in September and End in May.
