Tsavo East National Park

The Tsavo East National Park covers an area of 13,747 Km Maneless lions of Tsavosquare located in the South Eastern side of Kenya inland from the Coast. The park lies between the Kitui, Makueni, Kilifi, Tana river, and Taita Taveta districts and is 232 km to the Mtito Andei gate and 325 km to Voi gate. It was gazzeted in april 1948 as a National Park and Rhino Sanctuary. The park has a warm dry climate, with temperatures rtanging fro 20 to 40 degrees celsius, the long rains fall betwee March and May and the Short rains between October and December.

The park mainly features bush, open plains,grasslands, semi arid acacia scrub and riverine woodlands. Among the animals that can be found there are the lions, leopard, elephant, hippo, giraffe, cape buffalo, zebra, kudu, oryx waterbuck, hirola, gerenuk and Grant's gazelle. The bird species are over 500.

The roads in the park are well graded sign posted and efficiently maintained. The park is open daily between 6am and 7 pm. The park had one lodge and 5 tented camps and a wide selection of lodges,hotels and camps around its boundaries.
